I made mac n cheese from scratch for dinner, well I did not raise the chicken (used egg beaters)
Mac macaroni and cheese was IDEAL with the cold snap, the snow, rain, now a winter warning with THUNDER (that is real natural, snow and thunder....) It was served with boneless skinless chicken breast and broccoli. (I DID ADD chopped green onions to Nancy's, something healthy.....)
SO: Who says nothing good came out of the Reagan years?
RONALD REAGAN'S FAVORITE MACARONI AND CHEESE
This dish circulated during former President Reagan's terms of office and became a non-partisan favorite of readers.
½ pound macaroni
1 teaspoon butter
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon hot water
1 cup milk
3 cups shredded sharp Chedder cheese
Cook macaroni in boiling salted water until tender then drain. Stir in butter and egg. Mix salt and mustard with hot water and add milk. Add cheese, reserving some to sprinkle on top.
Turn macaroni mixture into buttered casserole. Add milk mixture. Sprinkle with reserved cheese. Bake at 350 degrees 45 minutes or until custard is set and top is crusty. Makes 6 servings.
